Why BIM Consulting Is Ever More Important

One might argue that the speed of delivery and process control has been a fact of life ever since man began to hunt the Woolly Mammoth to extinction – however, now that we have reached the 21st century. There is a noticeable lack of giant pachyderms to be found, are we not even more subject to a competitive environment?

Our environment may not be filled with Cave Bears and large roving bands of wolves but slip up as far as your business processes are concerned and see how quickly you become prey to competitive forces.

Building Information Modelling (or BIM) is a methodology for those who are involved in designing a project – especially one that requires computer modelling or simulations prior to constructing the physical building.

This may not sound the most exciting concept in the world – but companies that specialise in BIM consulting are now amongst the most important in the world. It is not frivolous to say that our ancestors invented the concept while hunting.

Today we use software to bring together diverse strands or silos of skills that are necessary to bring an architectural project together. Those silos may include architecture, construction, and engineering. However, there is an increasing need for a collaborative process – and in this ‘just in time’ business environment, BIM software is required.

That software is increasingly sophisticated, and that is why the use of BIM consultants is ever more critical. The right software, used in the right way can mean the difference between a project being delivered on time, without the stumbling blocks that can increasingly spell the difference between success and failure in an increasingly competitive environment.

One needs only to look at the survival rate of the Mammoth to realise that BIM consulting is not only a strategic necessity – but one that can contribute to evolutionary success – or being consigned to the dustbin of history.
